The Immaculate Heart of Mary

The Immaculate Heart of Mary

Patron of the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary
August Celebrations

In the 17th Century, Pope Pius X declared St. John Eudes to be the Immaculate Heart of Mary’s “Father, Doctor and Apostle.” A general Saturday devotion to Mary was proposed, thus giving the Mother of Jesus at least 52 days of devotions throughout the year.  Eudes wrote a book titled “The Admirable Heart of Mary” and extolled the blessings and symbolism of Mother Mary. The Pope declared that Indulgences would be offered to those who held 15 consecutive Saturday devotions to Mary and it was later declared that the First Saturday after the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart of Jesus would be a day for the devotion to Mother Mary. The act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary does not place Mary above Christ and instead, shows us that we all came to Christ through Mary, just as Christ came to us, through her. Revere Mary and her Immaculate Heart, as well as the Sacred Heart of Jesus, not just on Saturdays, but every day. © 2008
