This is the story of The Holy Spirit, and Prospect.1, The Biennial
The Holy Spirit, the Third Part of the Trinity
The emergence of Prospect . 1, the most ambitious contemporary art Biennial ever presented, seems related to the story of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit represents the third part of the Trinity, and the part that is active spiritually. In 2005, curator Dan Cameron contemplated art as an active mechanism to assist New Orleans in its ascension from devastation. He envisioned New Orleans giving presentations of art, in myriad forms, and offering a serious display of the artistic renderings of the most revered artists of our time. His task was to reveal works of art as spiritually powerful and healing. Throughout the Holidays, and into the New Year, the art was displayed throughout New Orleans, signifying that life’s creative gifts, when combined with vision and energy, can effectively invigorate, and help heal, a community. The Holy Spirit has surely lent its hand to this awesomely inspiring event. Its wings are gloriously cascading, high in flight, and representing the City of New Orleans as again triumphant. It is surely a not-so-subtle coincidence that the Biennial journey began on All Saints Day, November 1, 2008. ©2005-2008 |
