Ronnie Virgets
Here is New Orleanian, Ronnie Virgets, cheerfully wearing one of our SaintsforSinners.com hand-painted Saint Cecilia medals. We gave him Saint Cecilia because we love to get him to sing at the New Orleans Fairgrounds (now known as "Churchill Downs"). He never fails to disappoint. Ronnie has truly had a storied career and he is loved by all. When we see him at the Racetrack here in New Orleans, we ask him to sing his famous line, "New Orleans Fairgrounds, and All That Jazz." Never once has he declined our request. It's perfect that we gave him Saint Cecilia, patroness of musicians, since we always ask him to sing. No one could ever sing that line better than Ronnie Virgets.
Ronnie has been a commentator, journalist, bartender in the French Quarter, and, is a former King of the Krewe du Vieux, one of the best Mardi Gras Parades! He is also an Emmy Award winner. You'd think all those occupations would fill up a life but Ronnie is also the author of two books, "Say Cap! The New Orleans Views of Ronnie Virgets," and, "Lost Bread Flavored with a Little Steen's Cane Syrup." Both are available in local bookstores and both are well-worth buying.
We were very happy when Ronnie enthusiastically took our hand-painted saint Cecilia medal, delighted when he put it on "on the spot," and then kindly allowed us to snap a photograph. But it's not surprising Ronnie Virgets would embrace a Saint medallion; he attended the local Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Aloysius schools "back in the day." If you'd like to hear Ronnie sing "And All That Jazz," just go the Churchill Downs Fairgrounds this fall in New Orleans. He'll be in the mix somewhere (probably the paddock prior to the races) and it is always a treat to be in his presence.
