The Saints are the Sinners who Keep on Trying - Robert Louis Stevenson
This is the story of Anne Catherine Emmerich!
Patron of Visionaries & Prophets
Anne’s story took place long ago. She was a pious and frail little girl who worked as a seamstress to an organist. It was soon discovered that Anne possessed special gifts. She had frequent visions, could prophesize future events, and also diagnose the illnesses of those around her. She was also known to experience religious ecstacies in Church and elsewhere. She was vilified in the community, threatened, and jailed. The well-known poet, Klemens Brentano, came to see Anne and she declared she had already seen him in her visions. They worked together and communicated well, even though they spoke different languages. Ultimately Brentano published several book s that were inspired by Anne, the first being “The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to the Meditations of Anne Catherine Emmerich.” The decree of her Beatification Miracle has been officially presented and her relics were moved for reverence to the Holy Cross Church in Dulmen, Germany where they remain today. ©1999 |
