The Saints are the Sinners who Keep on Trying - Robert Louis Stevenson
This is the story of Louise de Marillac!
Patroness of
Vincentian Service Orders and
Rejected People
Invoked for Acceptance
Feast Day: March 15
Louise's story took place long ago. Louise de Marillac was born on August 12, 1591, in Meux, France, in the late 16th Century. From a very early age she contemplated and wished to become part of a Religious Order. However, none would take her; she was consistently rejected because of her frail health. She later married Anthony LeGrasin 1611, who was an assistant to the Queen, but was widowed in 1625. She associated with and was a worthy protégé of Saint Vincent de Paul and together they created the Daughters of Charity in 1642. The Order formally requested Vatican Approval and it was granted in 1655. Louise also created the Sisters of Charity and took her vows as its Mother Superior, a role she held until her death on March 15, 1660 in Paris, France, where her body lies incorrupt still to this day. Saint Louise has been a source of spiritual guidance for groups of lay women who selflessly serve the poor and needy throughout the world. Louise was Beatified in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV and Canonized in 1934 by Pope Pius, XI. Through her patronages she is invoked for help with disappointing children, comfort after the loss of parents, solace for widows, understanding for those rejected by religious orders, guidance for Vincentian Service Orders, and help for sick people. In 1960, Pope John XXIII declared Saint Louise as a Patroness of Social Workers. Pray to Saint Louise de Marillac when contemplating the best way to assist others. Saint Louise’s thoughtful guidance will clear the path of your ambitions and lead you to success in all of your altruistic endeavors. ©2008 |
