This is the story of Margaret!

This is the story of Margaret!

Patron of Pregnant Women and Nurses
Invoked for fertility and safe pregnancies

Margaret's story took place long ago. She was a beautiful woman who remained a virgin throughout her life to serve the Lord. The devil, however, had other plans for Margaret. He turned into a dragon and swallowed her, but while Margaret was in the devil's belly, the cross she carried miraculously grew to great proportions and destroyed him. The devil again tried to seduce her, this time in a different disguise, but Margaret saw through it and defeated him. It is said that those who light candles in her honor will obtain whatever they pray for and that those who pray to her will survive the labor of childbirth, as will their babies. Margaret was tortured in many ways but she held true to her spirit, converting many to Christianity. Her followers know that those who believe in her will receive their just rewards. In art, Margaret is often shown wearing pearls. Her name comes from the Latin word, "Margarita," meaning pearl. Couples praying for children often wear SfS Saint Margaret and pray to her asking for the most miraculous and wonderful gift of all: The Gift of Life!
